How long have you lived in the Metro-East?

14 years.

In what Metro-East city do you live?

I live in Marine.

What do you love most about the Metro-East?

I love the small-town feel and friendly people. After living in St. Louis for 12 years, I really enjoy having the personal relationships with the local businesses and the people in my community. The bonus is that St. Louis is only 30 minutes away so anything I might miss, I can still enjoy!

What advice would you give someone moving to the area?

Take a look around and take in all that is available in the communities that may surround where you choose to live or work. Each one has its own personality and one of them will have things that reflect what is important to or interests you.

What are your favorite attractions in the Metro-East?

I love all the festivals. Each community has its own personality and brings different events for the different personalities of its citizens. From the Route 66 in Edwardsville, Horseradish Festival in Collinsville, Art on the Square in Belleville - it seems like something is always going on throughout the area. And I can't forget how close we are to Busch Stadium. Being avid Cardinal fans we make that trip often.

What do you think are the Metro-East's best assets?

I think Metro-East offers great job opportunities as well as wonderful communities to raise a family. The schools are excellent in the area. We chose to move to the Metro-East when our children reached school age. Our children are now leaving for college with a great educational base.

What do you like to do for fun in the Metro-East?

We have spent the better part of our time in the area chasing our kids around watching them play sports. One in baseball and the other in soccer. There's a great variety of athletic activities for kids to participate in. We love to take our kids to Raging Rivers in the summer and take drives up the Great River Road in the fall to look at the beautiful scenery.

Why do you think it’s important for people to volunteer and what drives you to volunteer?
Spending time as a volunteer really is a joy. Being able to help someone or an organization by giving my time or talents gives me a sense of pride. I like to help others and many have helped me along the way.
I have a special place in my heart for those that choose to work with Hospice for those reaching the end of life. I think it’s important to volunteer your time to an organization that means something to you. When there is passion in what you are doing the recipients can feel it and it can make a huge impact on their lives. I can’t think of a better way to spend my time.
Have you made any special friends or memories in your volunteer work?
You make so friends when you volunteer. There seems to be a special bond when you come together with people that share in your passion.
